Thoughts on being a bridezilla

Hello friends...

No, I'm not married yet, but I thought I'd squeeze in just a little post before the big day because I've got LOTS on my mind...

There are lots of things I should be doing -
1. Preparing for Parent Teacher Conferences tomorrow and Thursday. I'm sorry - don't the powers-that-be realize that I'm getting married next week? I don't have the space in my brain to talk with parents for two nights about how their children are doing in third grade. Maybe I can fake it... I know! I'll just hand each of them an invitation to the reception and maybe they'll understand why their child's teacher is acting like a spaz.
2. Preparing Thank You gifts for the wonderful people who are saving my bacon as we speak... I hope you know who you are.
3. Washing my dishes.... I even filled up the sink with hot, soapy water. It's just waiting for me to walk in there and plunge my hands in and scrub, scrub, scrub.
4. Going to the Post Office and bank... errands don't wait.
5. Getting little "14 Days of Valentines" gifts for my sweetheart. We figured if we started on Valentines' Day, our last "Day of Valentines" would be our wedding day...

But instead, I sit here on my couch in my apartment, staring at the mountain of wedding "stuff" that is appearing more and more cluttered every day and thinking about how I should be doing this better.

I have become a bridezilla, I fear.

A "good" bride would host some sort of party for all of her bridesmaids, since they are, in fact, her closest friends. She would involve them in all the little details of the planning and make it a grand adventure. She would most definitely NOT act snippy or forget to tell them what the plan is for the wedding weekend. She would make time for them and nurture those friendships.

Well, I am not a "good" bride. I did forget to tell one of my very dearest friends what the plan is for the wedding day and the open house the day after. I haven't kept in touch with any of my bridesmaids like I should. I'm hoping that they feel involved, but I fear they don't. The last thing I want is for them to feel like I'm taking advantage of them, but I'm afraid my actions say otherwise. That makes me a "bridezilla."

I'm caught up in thinking about minor details of the day... the color of the plates, the decorations, if the music will be loud enough... Clue #2 that I've become the dreaded "bridezilla."

I've also caught myself thinking, "Only nine more days, and then everything can get back to normal." Yeah right. Only if normal means a man living in my house, sharing a bank account, and cooking dinner for two every  night.

There is no more normal. At least, not like I'm used to.

Don't get me wrong - I am positively thrilled to be marrying my sweetheart. I just wish I knew how to do this right... with no "bridezilla"ness and more focus on what's really important...
That I get to spend eternity with the man I love more than life.

Here's the "wedding corner." Yes - It is sideways. It's a metaphor. ;)
