Funny moment #1: I gave one of my students a sentence to finish. "When you go outside, make sure you..." I was thinking she'd go for 'wear a jacket.' Instead she was more creative. 'Don't get robbed' was her answer. Yep, that's also important when you go outside.
Funny moment #2: I talked to my kiddos about how nothing makes me more angry than when my students lie right to my face. I wanted them to understand that they'll get in more trouble if they lie about what they did wrong than if they are just straight up honest in the first place. To get that discussion started, I said, "Why is it a bad idea to lie?" One of my boys raised his hand and said, totally stone-faced, "Because lying is a sin."
Funny moment #3: One of my students from my first year of teaching (that would make him a sixth grader already. Sheesh!) came into my classroom to talk Utah football with me. We are both dedicated fans, and we're dying over this lackluster season. "So where are the sixth graders right now?" I asked, thinking he would say it was recess time or something. "Oh, we're at rotations. I'm supposed to be in Mr. _______'s room. I just wanted to say hi." I literally laughed out loud and told him to get to class.
I can't even get over how great this year is so far. Every day is a delight. :)

Just a few reasons I love this man
This weekend I added to my mental list of "Reasons I love Josh Tanner." Today I decided to make it more than a mental list. (Warning: If you think this post might give you a rash because it's too sappy, I give you permission to skip it. :) )
When I turn to Josh and say, "We NEED to go to New York City soon and walk across the Brooklyn Bridge together," he says "okay," even though I know big cities are my favorite thing... not his.
When I'm sick and on the couch, Josh looks at me and asks, "What do you need me to do?"
Josh watched the Presidential Debates with me and TALKED POLITICS WITH ME!!! despite the fact that he's told me he's not interested in politics. Well, I guess he used to not be interested in politics. Oh, and he registered to vote. I smiled a little, just thinking about that.
Yep, I'm one lucky girl.
Tips for Practicing Self-Care
Drinking lots of fluids - namely Aztec Hot Chocolate - in Boston in April.
And then I was hit again last week. Double Lame.
The most terrible thing about mono is there is no real treatment. If you get mono, here's what the doctor will tell you:
1. Drink lots of fluids
2. Eat healthy
3. Get more rest than usual
4. And no more monkeys jumping on the bed
I speak the truth (well, except for the monkeys part).
Here's my deal. I DO NOT want to keep getting mono. It's not fun. NOT FUN! I tell you. There must be something I'm doing that makes my body the perfect place for this nasty little virus to nest. I know that I need to go to bed at a more reasonable hour. 12:30 just isn't cutting it. But what else do I do? I'm calling out to all you healthy ones... what kinds of habits should I start now (or which habits should I kick) so that I don't have to deal with this again?
Thanks much.
West Wing = happiness
Oh my heavens to Betsy! Can I just tell you how incredibly giddy I was when my dad showed me this little gem?
If you've never seen The West Wing, you'll probably find it clever.
But if you happen to be like me and own (ahem) all seven seasons of this wonderful television program, then you'll probably geek out a little and dance around the room. (not saying that's what I did.... but.... well....anyway....)
Let me just say one last thing: I don't live in Michigan, but if I did, I can guarantee I'd vote for Bridget McCormick.
